Following “Inside Every Fat Man“ and its great reception from the public, Sandy teamed up with Producer Geoffrey Haslam to start work on his second album with EMI.
This album would prove different to the mostly self-recorded sound of “Inside Every Fat Man" as the ‘Average White Band’; a Funk and R&B band from Dundee, Scotland were to back Sandy on the fore-coming album. Thus the album was to feature a much funkier style with the sense of a full band playing with Sandy.
First to be recorded was the single “Only Love Can Last Forever“ & its B-side “Eugène Baby“, both songs demoed in 1972. Its relevant to mention that after “Inside Every Fat Man” was complete and released, Sandy had no songs for his second contractual album. So, while relaxing on a hammock in the summer of 1974, Sandy was greeted by a telephone call from Geoffrey Haslam to inform Sandy the studio was booked with the ‘Average White Band‘ in 2 weeks time! Surprised, Sandy got to work and wrote the entire albums songs in the 2 weeks time. This wasn’t to worry Sandy though, as the album was greeted with a higher budget from EMI therefore more studio time…
